In-person seminars

If you have a busy schedule, or getting to an in-person seminar is difficult, attending an online seminar may be more comfortable and convenient. Just like an in-person seminar, our online seminars are hosted by one of our experienced doctors or care team members. During the seminar, we’ll explain each step of the weight loss process, what to expect, and share success stories from people who have been through our weight loss programs. After the seminar, you can schedule a meeting with our care team to talk about the next steps on your weight loss journey.

Online seminars

When you attend an in-person seminar, you not only have the opportunity to meet our bariatric care team, but you can also talk with others who face the same weight loss challenges. Knowing there are others on the same journey as you can give you comfort and support. During the seminar, we will explain the entire weight loss process step-by-step, and answer any questions you may have in a supportive, judgement-free environment. After the seminar, our weight loss doctors and care team will be available to answer your questions one-on-one.

While we are taking strict safety precautions to help keep you safe, our commitment to compassionate, personalized care remains unchanged. Whether you want to lose weight with a lifestyle change or you are considering weight loss surgery, the first step of your weight loss journey starts with attending a weight loss seminar at no cost to you. At Ascension St. Vincent’s, we offer two types of seminars to help you learn about our weight loss programs, what to expect, how to modify your lifestyle, motivational tips and more.

Frequently asked questions

What are the requirements for bariatric surgery?
There are specific insurance requirements for weight loss surgery. The National Institutes of Health set criteria to determine who will qualify for weight loss surgery. Patients with a BMI greater than 40 qualify for surgery, and patients with a BMI from 35-39.9 with weight related health conditions may also qualify for surgery. Patients also have had to try losing weight by other methods before pursuing surgery.

Will insurance cover my bariatric surgery?
Many insurance companies cover weight loss surgery, but each insurance has their own pre-operative requirements. If you are considering surgery with us, first contact your insurance carrier to learn more about your specific benefits and coverage options. If you need help determining your eligibility for coverage, we can help. For those without insurance or individuals with plans that do not cover bariatric surgery, a self-pay option is also available.

How soon can I return to work after bariatric surgery?
Each patient is different. We typically advise patients to take 7-10 days off from work if your job is not physically demanding.

Where can I learn more about the weight loss programs offered at Ascension St. Vincent's?
We have many resources for you to learn more about our programs. We encourage our patients to attend either an in-person or an online seminar. If you’re not ready to attend a seminar, but are looking for more information, you can submit and information request form below.

Balancing care with caution

Compassionate care is safe care. At Ascension St. Vincent's, our commitment is to keep you and your family safe while you’re receiving care in our ERs, hospitals, doctor’s offices and outpatient centers. We have strict safety precautions in place — such as limiting visitors, staggering appointments, rearranging waiting rooms, making more online appointments available, treating patients who are ill at separate sites of care, and performing rigorous procedures to clean and disinfect. We are fully prepared for your safety when you're in our care.
