The journey to a new you

Weight-loss surgery is personal, so is the way we care for you. At Ascension Sacred Heart in Northwest Florida, our weight loss care teams and bariatric surgeon will guide and support you through every step of your journey. We deliver surgical treatments such as sleeve gastrectomy and gastric bypass. For weight loss surgery patients, success means more than numbers on the scale. We help you with your lifestyle change. The road to a healthier, happier you begins with watching a weight loss seminar.

Our online seminars are hosted by our bariatric surgeon. During the seminar, we’ll explain each step of the weight loss process and what to expect. After the seminar, you can schedule a meeting with our care team to talk about the next steps on your weight loss journey.

Frequently asked questions

What are the requirements for bariatric surgery?
There are specific insurance requirements for weight loss surgery. The National Institutes of Health set criteria to determine who will qualify for weight loss surgery. Patients with a BMI greater than 40 qualify for surgery, and patients with a BMI from 35-39.9 with weight related health conditions may also qualify for surgery. Patients also have had to try losing weight by other methods before pursuing surgery.

Will insurance cover my bariatric surgery?
Many insurance companies cover weight loss surgery, but each insurance has their own pre-operative requirements. If you are considering surgery with us, first contact your insurance carrier to learn more about your specific benefits and coverage options. If you need help determining your eligibility for coverage, we can help. For those without insurance or individuals with plans that do not cover bariatric surgery, a self-pay option is also available.

How soon can I return to work after bariatric surgery?
Each patient is different. We typically advise patients to take 21 days off from work. If your job is not physically demanding, you may be able to return to work in 10 - 14 days after a gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy, or revision surgery.

Where can I learn more about the weight loss programs offered at Ascension Sacred Heart?
We have many resources for you to learn more about our programs. We encourage our patients to attend either an in-person or an online seminar. If you’re not ready to attend a seminar, but are looking for more information, you can submit an information request form below, call us at
